Design and Features
Completely redesigned version of Canon EF 24mm F/1.4L USM (1997) to achieve the best possible image quality. The lens has the following advantages over the predecessor:
- weather-sealed design,
- impoved autofocus algorythms,
- better sharpness at the edges of the frame.
The lens is a part of Canon’s series of Luxury lenses notable for their excellent build quality and robust design. The lens barrel is of moderate weight, dust-proof and water-resistant, made of metal. The lens mount is metallic. The focusing ring is ribbed and rubberized, well damped, moves very smoothly, has reasonable width and angle of rotation of 160 degrees for comfortable focusing.
The lens features AF/MF focus mode switch.
|AF||Autofocus mode with Full-Time Manual Focus.|
|MF||Manual focus mode.|
The lens uses front filters with standard size of 77 mm which are easy to find. However, filters of such size are more expensive and mainly used with professional lenses.
The filter thread does not rotate during focusing which allows convenient use of different types of filters (including but not limited to polarizing and gradient).
The lens is equipped with ultrasonic motor, the autofocus is virtually silent and very fast.
Aspherical elements (ASPH, XA, XGM) minimize spherical aberration, astigmatism, coma and ensure excellent sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture.
Low dispersion elements (AD, ED, LD, HLD, SD, UD etc) and fluorite elements minimize chromatic aberrations and ensure excellent sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture.
The lens incorporates a floating system that provides correction of aberrations and ensures constantly high image quality at the entire range of focusing distances from infinity down to the closest focusing distance. Learn more
The sharpness is excellent at the center of the frame already wide open. The edges are good at F/1.4-2 and very good at subsequent apertures. The corners are soft at F/1.4-2 but very good at subsequent apertures.
