|EF||Autofocus lens designed both for Canon full frame and APS-C SLR cameras.|
|IS||The lens is equipped with optical image stabilizer. The stabilizer allows to increase the shutter speed by several stops and shoot handheld in such lighting conditions and at such focal lengths where without stabilizer you will have to use tripod, decrease the shutter speed and/or increase the ISO setting which can lead to blurry and noisy images.|
|USM||The lens is equipped with ultrasonic motor to provide very fast and virtually silent autofocus. Learn more|

Design and Features
An update of popular Canon EF 24mm F/2.8 (1988). World’s first 24 mm wide-angle prime lens to feature Image Stabilizer which makes it ideal both for landscape photography and reportage. Large maximum aperture combined with Image Stabilizer enables sharp results when shooting handheld, even in low-light conditions. The lens is also ideal for shooting fast-moving subjects due to the ability of Image Stabilizer to detect intentional panning movement and automatically switch from Mode 1 to Panning mode. The lens has the following advantages over non-IS version:
- improved optical design (though lacks a floating system),
- smaller closest focusing distance (0.2m compared to 0.25m),
- USM with FTM (older version has AFD without FTM),
- better build quality.
The lens barrel is compact, of moderate weight, made of high-quality plastic. The lens mount is metallic.
The lens features AF/MF focus mode switch.
|AF||Autofocus mode with Full-Time Manual Focus.|
|MF||Manual focus mode.|
The lens uses front filters with standard size of 58 mm which are easy to find. They are also inexpensive.
The filter thread does not rotate during focusing which allows convenient use of different types of filters (including but not limited to polarizing and gradient).
The lens is equipped with ultrasonic motor, the autofocus is virtually silent and very fast.
The lens features optical image stabilizer, which, according to the manufacturer, compensates up to 4 stops of shutter speed. Theoretically it allows to capture sharp images of static subjects at shutter speeds down to 1 second(*).
* without the need to increase ISO sensitivity and/or use a tripod, at the same lighting conditions and at the same aperture
The image stabilizer does not have any specialized mode of operation, but is capable of automatic detection of panning and then corrects camera shake only in one direction.
Aspherical elements (ASPH, XA) minimize spherical aberration, astigmatism, coma and ensure excellent sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture.
The sharpness is excellent at the center of the frame already wide open. The edges are mediocre wide open, good at F/4 and very good at subsequent apertures.
