|EF-S||Autofocus lens designed only for Canon APS-C digital SLR cameras.|
|IS||The lens is equipped with optical image stabilizer. The stabilizer allows to increase the shutter speed by several stops and shoot handheld in such lighting conditions and at such focal lengths where without stabilizer you will have to use tripod, decrease the shutter speed and/or increase the ISO setting which can lead to blurry and noisy images.|

Design and Features
The lens barrel is of moderate weight, made of plastic. The lens mount is plastic.
The lens features AF/MF focus mode switch.
|AF||Autofocus mode without Full-Time Manual Focus.|
|MF||Manual focus mode.|
The lens uses front filters with standard size of 58 mm which are easy to find. They are also inexpensive.
It should be noted that most lenses of the system have such diameter of the filter thread, that is why if you will purchase additional lens with similar focal length and/or speed, you probably will be able to share filters between them.
The filter thread ROTATES during focusing which does not allow convenient use such types of filters which require a specific orientation (f.e. polarizing and gradient).
The lens features optical image stabilizer, which, according to the manufacturer, compensates up to 4 stops of shutter speed. Theoretically it allows to capture sharp images of static subjects at shutter speeds down to 1/3 second at focal length of 55 mm(*).
* without the need to increase ISO sensitivity and/or use a tripod, at the same lighting conditions and at the same aperture
The image stabilizer does not have any specialized mode of operation, but is capable of automatic detection of panning and then corrects camera shake only in one direction.
