|HD||The HD multi-layer coating is applied to the surface of lens elements. It boosts light transmission, ensures sharp and high contrast images, minimizes ghosting and flares. The HD coating reduces reflections 50% more efficiently in comparison with traditional smc coating throughout the visible spectrum and has exceptional hardness, which ensures its increased durability.|

Design and Features
Telephoto zoom lens for Pentax digital SLR cameras with retractable water-resistant barrel of moderate weight made of high quality plastic and metallic mount. The zoom ring is wide, covered with fine ribs in order to provide good grip and prevent slippage of fingers. The front part of the barrel substantially extends forward with zooming to focal length of 300mm. Focusing the lens at infinity at this focal length more than doubles its overall length. At the closest focusing distance the lens offers magnification ratio of 1:3. The front part of the barrel does not rotate which enables convenient use of specialized filter. The lens uses affordable and widely-available 58mm filters. Dedicated round bayonet lens hood is a part of the package.
A fluorine coating has been applied to the outer surface of the front lens element to repel water or oil drops for easier cleaning of the lens surface.
For the first time for Pentax, the lens is equipped with lead screw stepping motor (pulse motor according to Pentax terminology) to provide quiet, smooth and fast autofocus, which is especially important during video recording. For more information on stepping motor, please refer to the article dedicated to Canon EF 40mm F/2.8 STM (2012).
The lens features Quick-Shift Focus System: after autofocus is achieved, the focusing ring can be turned to adjust the focus manually. This feature eliminates the need for changing the focus mode to MF.
This is the first K-mount lens to feature an electromagnetic diaphragm control system. It assures high-precision aperture control during video recording and shifts the aperture setting automatically and smoothly. Coupled with the PLM mechanism, the system also assures smooth AF tracking operation and exposure control, while minimizing the intrusion of focus- and aperture-shift noises during video recording.
NOTE: In order to use this lens, the camera’s firmware must be upgraded to the latest version (except for the PENTAX K-70). Cameras compatible with this lens are: K-1, K-3 II, K-S2 and K-S1. If this lens is mounted on a camera without proper firmware upgrade, its diaphragm control mechanism becomes inactive, making it impossible to obtain correct exposure.
Low dispersion elements (AD, ED, LD, HLD, SD, UD etc) and fluorite elements minimize chromatic aberrations and ensure excellent sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture.
