Design and Features
The lens barrel is of moderate weight, made of plastic. The lens mount is plastic.
The focusing ring is not physically coupled with the focusing mechanism and works electronically (focus-by-wire) - turning of the ring actuates an electric motor that moves the focusing group of the lens to the proper position to achieve sharp focus.
The lens lacks focusing mode switch, therefore you have to set the automatic or manual focus mode from the camera. Full-Time Manual Focus is available.
Full-Time Manual Focus with lenses equipped with stepping or linear motor is performed in the following way - half-press the shutter button, wait until the camera has finished the autofocusing and then focus manually without releasing the shutter button using the focusing ring.
The lens uses front filters with standard size of 55 mm which are easy to find. They are also inexpensive.
The filter thread does not rotate during focusing which allows convenient use of different types of filters (including but not limited to polarizing and gradient).
