|AF-P||The lens is equipped with stepping motor to provide smooth, fast and virtually silent autofocus. Learn more|
|DX||The lens is designed only for Nikon APS-C digital SLR cameras.|
|ED||The lens incorporates one or several low dispersion elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and ensure excellent sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture.|
|VR||The lens is equipped with optical image stabilizer. The stabilizer allows to increase the shutter speed by several stops and shoot handheld in such lighting conditions and at such focal lengths where without stabilizer you will have to use tripod, decrease the shutter speed and/or increase the ISO setting which can lead to blurry and noisy images.|

The lens barrel is of moderate weight, made of plastic. The lens mount is plastic.
The focusing ring is not physically coupled with the focusing mechanism and works electronically (focus-by-wire) - turning of the ring actuates an electric motor that moves the focusing group of the lens to the proper position to achieve sharp focus.
The lens lacks focusing mode switch, therefore you have to set the automatic or manual focus mode from the camera. Full-Time Manual Focus is available.
Full-Time Manual Focus with lenses equipped with stepping or linear motor is performed in the following way - half-press the shutter button, wait until the camera has finished the autofocusing and then focus manually without releasing the shutter button using the manual focusing ring.
The lens uses front filters with standard size of 58 mm which are easy to find. They are also inexpensive.
The filter thread does not rotate during focusing which allows convenient use of different types of filters (including but not limited to polarizing and gradient).
Low dispersion elements (AD, ED, LD, HLD, SD, UD etc) and fluorite elements minimize chromatic aberrations and ensure excellent sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture.
Fully compatible cameras: D5600, D5500, D5300(*), D3400, D3300(*), D500 and later models.
Compatible cameras with limited functions: D5, D810 series, Df, D750, D7200, D7100, D5200.

(*) Firmware update may be required.
The lens features optical image stabilizer, which, according to the manufacturer, compensates up to 4 stops of shutter speed. Theoretically it allows to capture sharp images of static subjects at shutter speeds down to 1/19 second at focal length of 300 mm(*).
* without the need to increase ISO sensitivity and/or use a tripod, at the same lighting conditions and at the same aperture
The image stabilizer does not have any specialized mode of operation, but is capable of automatic detection of panning and then corrects camera shake only in one direction.
Focusing mode (M - A) and Vibration Reduction (ON - OFF) are set using the camera menus therefore the number of compatible cameras is limited. Due to use of stepping motor the number of compatible cameras is limited.
