Design and Features
The lens barrel is of moderate weight, made of high-quality plastic. The lens mount is metallic.
The lens features M/A - M focus mode switch.
|M/A||Autofocus mode that allows switching to manual focus with virtually no time lag - even during autofocus servo operation and regardless of autofocus mode in use.|
|M||Manual focus mode.|
The lens features focusing distance range limiter which allows to choose between the following focusing distance ranges:
|FULL||Full range of focusing distances.|
|0.2 m - ∞||Range of focusing distances suitable for shooting distant subjects.|
By setting the suitable focusing distance range, the actual autofocusing time can be shorter.
The lens uses front filters with standard size of 52 mm which are easy to find. They are also inexpensive. It should be noted that most lenses of the system have such diameter of the filter thread, that is why if you will purchase additional lens with similar focal length and/or speed, you probably will be able to share filters between them.
The filter thread does not rotate during focusing which allows convenient use of different types of filters (including but not limited to polarizing and gradient).
Nikon AF-S Micro-Nikkor 40mm F/2.8G is a compact, lightweight and affordable macro lens. However it is not usable for macro shooting of insects due to its short working distance. Moreover the lens hood will cast a shadow on the subjects. Anyway the lens is recommended for everyone who is into amateur macro photography.
The lens incorporates a floating system that provides correction of aberrations and ensures constantly high image quality at the entire range of focusing distances from infinity down to the closest focusing distance. Learn more
