A subjective look at Cosina AF 19-35mm F/3.5-4.5 MC @ Canon EOS 5D. Part 5 — Optical Results (continued)

The lens exhibits barrel distortion at focal length of 19 mm with full frame sensor, which is especially noticeable when you shoot architecture or interiors. However it’s a typical defect for a lens with such a wide angle of view. The distortion reduces with zooming to focal length of 35 mm.

Vignetting on full frame behaves despicably 🙂 Wide open it is noticeable at focal length of 19 mm and seems that does not disappear with closing of the aperture by any number of stops. It shows itself like darkening of the corners of the frame. However vignetting becomes weak with zooming to focal length of 35 mm.

Lateral chromatic aberrations are weak at most combinations of focal length and aperture. At the corners of Canon 5D’s frame CAs can be moderate (2-3 pixels) and cause deterioration of the image resolution in this part of the frame. In general the correction of CAs by this lens should be recognized as good.
