A subjective look at Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm F/1.8D @ Nikon D80. Part 3 — Bokeh

The background blur with this lens can be pretty rough if the background is located close to the subject. But if you will increase the distance between the subject and background and reduce the distance between camera and subject, there will be a chance to obtain a more pleasant blur. Out-of-focus highlights look like heptagons with closing of the aperture due to non-circular aperture opening and have noticeable color outlining.

All in all it’s not the best result among the fast 50-55 primes but please remember that we are dealing with consumer prime lens which could be one of the best choices in case when I would like just to experiment with bokeh and your camera is equipped with built-in AF motor.
