|DG||The lens is designed for full-frame SLR cameras but can be also used on APS-C SLR cameras.|
|OS||The lens is equipped with optical image stabilizer. The stabilizer allows to increase the shutter speed by several stops and shoot handheld in such lighting conditions and at such focal lengths where without stabilizer you will have to use tripod, decrease the shutter speed and/or increase the ISO setting which can lead to blurry and noisy images.|
Sigma lenses for Olympus, Pentax and Sony digital SLR cameras are not equipped with optical image stabilizers because these cameras have built-in sensor-shift image stabilization technology.
|HSM||The lens is equipped with ultrasonic motor to provide very fast and virtually silent autofocus. Learn more|
|| C||High-performance Contemporary series lens which features the very latest technology and combines optical performance with compactness. Covers a wide range of needs.|

Sigma 150-600mm F/5-6.3 DG OS HSM model exists in two variations: Sports and Contemporary. The Sports lens is fully sealed, on the other hand only the mount of Contemporary lens is sealed. The optical designs are also different: in case of Sports we are dealing with 24 elements in 16 groups, including 2 FLD and 3 SLD, and the Contemporary lens consists of 20 elements in 14 groups, including 1 FLD and 3 SLD. The Contemporary lens also is smaller and lighter, has smaller diameter of filter thread and is made not only for Canon EF, Nikon F and Sigma SA mounts but also for Sony/Minolta A mount. The tripod adapter of Contemporary lens is detachable, made of magnesium allow and has a lighter weight in comparison with that of Sports lens.
The lens barrel is large, heavy, made of high-quality plastic (TSC). The lens mount is metallic, water-resistant.
The lens features AF - MO - MF focus mode switch.
|AF||Autofocus mode with Full-Time Manual Focus.|
|MO||Autofocus mode with Full-Time Manual Focus even during continuous autofocus.|
|MF||Manual focus mode.|
The lens features focusing distance range limiter which allows to choose between the following focusing distance ranges:
|FULL||Full range of focusing distances.|
|2.8 m - 10 m||Range of focusing distances suitable for shooting nearby subjects.|
|10 m - ∞||Range of focusing distances suitable for shooting distant subjects.|
By setting the suitable focusing distance range, the actual autofocusing time can be shorter.
The lens uses front filters with standard size of 95 mm which are easy to find. However, filters of such size are more expensive and mainly used with professional lenses.
The filter thread does not rotate during focusing which allows convenient use of different types of filters (including but not limited to polarizing and gradient).
Low dispersion elements (AD, ED, LD, HLD, SD, UD etc) and fluorite elements minimize chromatic aberrations and ensure excellent sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture.
Versions of the lens for Canon EF, Nikon F and Sigma SA mounts feature optical image stabilizer.
At the choice of the photographer the image stabilizer can operate in one of the following modes:
|Mode 1||Corrects vertical and horizontal camera shake. Mainly effective for shooting still subjects.|
|Mode 2||Corrects vertical camera shake during following shots in a horizontal direction.|
The lens is equipped with zoom lock which can be switched at any focal length.
