|APO||The lens incorporates low dispersion elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and ensure excellent sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture.|
|EX||Professional lens with high quality optics and robust build. Meets the highest standards and provides excellent performance and flawless image quality unachievable with traditional optical technologies.|
|DG||The lens is designed for full-frame SLR cameras but can be also used on APS-C SLR cameras.|
|OS||The lens is equipped with optical image stabilizer. The stabilizer allows to increase the shutter speed by several stops and shoot handheld in such lighting conditions and at such focal lengths where without stabilizer you will have to use tripod, decrease the shutter speed and/or increase the ISO setting which can lead to blurry and noisy images.
Sigma lenses for Olympus, Pentax and Sony digital SLR cameras are not equipped with optical image stabilizers because these cameras have built-in sensor-shift image stabilization technology.
|HSM||The lens is equipped with ultrasonic motor to provide very fast and virtually silent autofocus. Learn more|
|MACRO||Macro lens. Designed for close-up photography.|

Design and Features
The lens barrel is large, heavy, made of high-quality plastic. The lens mount is metallic.
The lens features AF/M focus mode switch.
|AF||Autofocus mode with Full-Time Manual Focus.|
|M||Manual focus mode.|
The lens features focusing distance range limiter which allows to choose between the following focusing distance ranges:
|FULL||Full range of focusing distances.|
|0.47 m - 0.67 m||Range of focusing distances suitable for shooting nearby subjects.|
|0.67 m - ∞||Range of focusing distances suitable for shooting distant subjects.|
By setting the suitable focusing distance range, the actual autofocusing time can be shorter.
The lens uses front filters with standard size of 86 mm which are easy to find. However, filters of such size are more expensive and mainly used with professional lenses.
The filter thread does not rotate during focusing which allows convenient use of different types of filters (including but not limited to polarizing and gradient).
The lens is equipped with ultrasonic motor, the autofocus should be virtually silent but slow.
Versions of the lens for Canon EF, Nikon F и Sigma SA mounts feature optical image stabilizer, which, according to the manufacturer, compensates up to 4 stops of shutter speed. Theoretically it allows to capture sharp images of static subjects at shutter speeds down to 1/11 second(*).
* without the need to increase ISO sensitivity and/or use a tripod, at the same lighting conditions and at the same aperture
At the choice of the photographer the image stabilizer can operate in one of the following modes:
|Mode 1||Corrects vertical and horizontal camera shake. Mainly effective for shooting still subjects.|
|Mode 2||Corrects vertical camera shake during following shots in a horizontal direction.|

Low dispersion elements (AD, ED, LD, HLD, SD, UD etc) and fluorite elements minimize chromatic aberrations and ensure excellent sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture.
The lens incorporates a floating system that provides correction of aberrations and ensures constantly high image quality at the entire range of focusing distances from infinity down to the closest focusing distance. Learn more
