|DG||The lens is designed for full-frame SLR cameras but can be also used on APS-C SLR cameras.|
|OS||The lens is equipped with optical image stabilizer. The stabilizer allows to increase the shutter speed by several stops and shoot handheld in such lighting conditions and at such focal lengths where without stabilizer you will have to use tripod, decrease the shutter speed and/or increase the ISO setting which can lead to blurry and noisy images.|

Design and Features
For information on history of Sigma and development of Sigma Global Vision line please refer to the article dedicated to Sigma 35mm F/1.4 DG HSM | A.
The lens barrel is large, heavy, dust-proof and water-resistant, made of metal. The lens mount is metallic. In terms of build quality and design Sigma Global Vision line is a new direction for the company: cosmetically the lens differs from the earlier models and looks attractive.
The lens features AF - MO - MF focus mode switch.
|AF||Autofocus mode with Full-Time Manual Focus.|
|MO||Autofocus mode with Full-Time Manual Focus even during continuous autofocus.|
|MF||Manual focus mode.|
During autofocus operation, you can press the AF Stop button of the lens to temporarily pause autofocus. This lets you stop autofocus whenever any unwanted obstacle comes closer to the camera than the moving subject you are tracking. If the shutter button is still pressed halfway when the AF Stop button is released, autofocusing will continue as before. The AF Stop function also works in continuous autofocus mode. You can change the functions of the AF Stop button using the camera's custom functions menu.
The lens features AF-L - MEMORY RECALL - AF-ON switch which allows to select the function assigned to the focus function button located on the lens barrel.
|AF-L||Temporary lock autofocus. Useful whenever any unwanted obstacle comes closer to the camera than the moving subject you are tracking. If the shutter button is still pressed halfway when the focus function button is released, autofocusing will continue as before. This function operates only in autofocus mode.|
|MEMORY RECALL||Focus on preset focusing distance even while you are shooting a different subject. This function operates in any focusing mode. To preset the focusing distance, focus the distance you want to preset and press the MEMORY SET button. To focus on preset distance, set the switch to MEMORY RECALL, keep the focus function button pressed and then take the photograph. The previous focus is restored when the focus function button is released.|
|AF-ON||Autofocus using the focus function button. The shutter button only releases the shutter in this mode. To lock focus or suspend autofocus, release the focus function button. Useful whenever any unwanted obstacle comes closer to the camera than the moving subject you are tracking. This function operates only in autofocus mode.|
The lens features focusing distance range limiter which allows to choose between the following focusing distance ranges:
|FULL||Full range of focusing distances.|
|3.5 m - 10 m||Range of focusing distances suitable for shooting nearby subjects.|
|10 m - ∞||Range of focusing distances suitable for shooting distant subjects.|
By setting the suitable focusing distance range, the actual autofocusing time can be shorter.
A fluorine coating has been applied to the outer surface of the front lens element to repel particles of dust, water or oil drops for easier cleaning of the lens surface.
The lens is equipped with ultrasonic motor, the autofocus should be virtually silent and fast.
The lens is compatible with Sigma USB dock, an optional accessory which allows to connect the lens to a computer and customize its operation via Sigma Optimization Pro software. The customization for this lens includes updates of firmware via the Internet, autofocus microadjustments for 4 shooting distances and setting the amount of rotation of the focusing ring which triggers FTM focusing, autofocus speed adjustment (3 modes available), adjustment of near and far limits of focusing range limiter, OS adjustment with priority for viewfinder image stabilization, stabilization of captured image or both.
Sigma also offers paid Mount Conversion Service (MCS) for this lens. With MCS, the mount of the lens can be converted to Canon EF, Nikon F or Sigma SA. Teleconverters, USB docks and other accessories for this lens are not eligible for MCS.
The lens features optical image stabilizer, which, according to the manufacturer, compensates up to 4 stops of shutter speed. Theoretically it allows to capture sharp images of static subjects at shutter speeds down to 1/31 second*).
*) without the need to increase ISO sensitivity and/or use a tripod, at the same lighting conditions and at the same aperture
At the choice of the photographer the image stabilizer can operate in one of the following modes:
|Mode 1||Corrects vertical and horizontal camera shake. Mainly effective for shooting still subjects.|
|Mode 2||Corrects vertical camera shake during following shots in a horizontal direction.|
The lens uses Intelligent OS for more effective panning in any direction. In Nikon mount the lens features an electromagnetic diaphragm.
