It is one of a few Sony lenses equipped with Smooth Autofocus Motor which uses a special gear to allow the focusing ring to turn even in autofocus mode for DMF control.
The lens uses front filters with standard size of 55 mm which are easy to find. They are also inexpensive. It should be noted that most lenses of the system have such diameter of the filter thread, that is why if you will purchase additional lens with similar focal length and/or speed, you probably will be able to share filters between them.
The filter thread ROTATES during focusing which does not allow convenient use such types of filters which require a specific orientation (f.e. polarizing and gradient).
