|FE||The lens is designed both for Sony full frame and APS-C digital mirrorless cameras.|
|PLANAR||Optically the lens is based on Planar design which was invented in 1896 and exists nowadays in several incarnations. In fact it's the most successful and the most copied optical design. The Planar designation comes from German word plan which means "plane" and emphasizes the flat field of view of the lens.|
|T*||The multi-layer coating is applied to the surface of lens elements. It boosts light transmission, ensures sharp and high contrast images, minimizes ghosting and flares.|

The lens barrel is heavy, dust-proof and water-resistant, made of metal. The lens mount is metallic.
The lens features AF/MF focus mode switch.
|MF||Manual focus mode.|
The lens uses front filters with standard size of 72 mm which are easy to find. However, filters of such size are more expensive and mainly used with professional lenses.
The filter thread does not rotate during focusing which allows convenient use of different types of filters (including but not limited to polarizing and gradient).
Aspherical elements (ASPH, XA) minimize spherical aberration, astigmatism, coma and ensure excellent sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture.
Low dispersion elements (AD, ED, LD, HLD, SD, UD etc) and fluorite elements minimize chromatic aberrations and ensure excellent sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture.
The lens is equipped with aperture ring which allows manual aperture control with precision of 1/3 stop. There is a CLICK switch which allows user to choose between clickless and click-stop manual aperture control.
